Can I bring someone with me when I attend my appointment?

We would prefer you to attend alone wherever possible due to the personal nature of the consultation. However we understand there may be situations where you need to bring somebody with you. Please do not bring children with you to your appointment unless this is absolutely necessary.

If you need to bring someone with you, please let us know in advance of attending. If you do bring somebody with you without suitable provisions in place, please bear in mind that it may not be safe and/or appropriate for us to proceed with your appointment.

Will I have to get undressed at my appointment?

There will be some cases where a clinician will need to examine you to determine the tests (and any treatment) you will need, so you may need to remove some items of clothing.

On these occasions you can expect to be talked through what will happen and why and we always offer a chaperone (another member of the team who will be present and support you through such an examination, if you wish).

Your care and privacy

Will my gender identity affect the care I receive from iCaSH?

iCaSH is a fully inclusive and non-judgemental service; we see individuals regardless of their gender identity. As part of our assessment, you will be asked about your gender identity and if this is the same as the gender you were assigned at birth. You may also be asked about your genital anatomy, for example "do you have a penis?", "do you have a vagina?" if this is relevant to your care.
